164: Clarity of Mission - with Carlos Penaloza, Chancellor at Leeward Community College

This is The EdUp Experience President Series Episode #54. In this episode, sponsored by MDT Marketing, we welcome Carlos Penaloza, Chancellor at Leeward Community College!  The Island of Hawaii has seen ups and downs during COVID.  Carlos talks to us about how they have handled the pandemic, but how his focus is now shifting to sustainable systems and workforce development.  On the sustainability front, Leeward Comunity College is at net-zero energy.  Accessibility is a huge focus for Leeward, as they work dissecting financial barriers for students by getting to them as early as possible to establish pipelines - including family enrollment.  Carlos and the team are reassessing what they do, how they do it, and how operations will need to be adjusted in the future.

Carlos Peñaloza became chancellor at Leeward Community College on July 1, 2019. He has worked actively with underserved populations in higher education and has more than a decade of biomedical research experience. His personal and professional focus has been to promote students’ success and upward financial mobility.
